As a child, I was fortunate to have been exposed to the finest of Old World culture, manners and the arts....My grandmother, a Russian aristocrat who escaped just before the Revolution, was the first person to show me that lost world of refinement and beauty, and my mother carried on this tradition...both of them teaching me never-to-be forgotten lessons of artistry, fine taste, and always maintaining the highest of standards.
Grandmama had many friends among those who had lost their fortunes and titles in the Revolution, then found new lives in America.....Among them was an unforgettable lady who had been a Baroness in Russia. She became a milliner here in the United States, at a grand and venerable old department store in the city where I grew up, and it was her lifelong career for 50 years. One of my most cherished memories as a young girl was of seeing her in church each Sunday and admiring all the exquisite outfits and extraordinary hats she wore ....always with very correct white gloves! She was an inspiration to me, and ladies like her as well as my grandmother and mother, formed the basis and essence for the artworks you will see here.
I invite you now to escape for a few moments to this gentle and refined world of white gloves, lovely hats, tea and lace.....and may there always be those who keep it alive.
